Are there cases where I should not take the FIT test?
There are a few times when completing the FIT test might not be the best choice. Here's why:
- Already seeing blood in your stool? If you already notice blood in your stool, talk to your doctor instead of using the test.
- Body going through changes? If you have hemorrhoids or are on your period, the FIT test might not be accurate. It's best to wait until any bleeding stops for at least 3 days before doing the test.
- Blood in your urine? Same goes for blood in your urine. Wait 3 days after it stops before using the FIT test.
Remember, the FIT test looks for hidden blood, the kind you can't see. So, if you already see blood, call your doctor directly.
