What is a FIT kit?

The fecal immunochemical test (FIT) is a special kind of stool test. It's a way to check for colon and rectal cancer early, when it's easiest to treat. The test looks for tiny amounts of blood in your stool that you wouldn't see yourself. Blood in the stool can sometimes be a sign of cancer, but other things can also cause it.

The FIT test only looks for human blood, not blood from food you ate or medicine you take. But remember, a FIT test is like a caution sign. It can tell you there might be cancer, but it can't tell you for sure. If the test finds blood, your doctor will need to do more tests to see what's going on.

Here's the key:

  • FIT test = Stool check for colon cancer.
  • Looks for tiny amounts of blood you can't see.
  • Only finds human blood, not from food or medicine.
  • Can't diagnose cancer for sure, but helps your doctor check.
